In response to the commission for a landscape piece that encompasses a bike ride and a birthday celebration in the mountains, I embraced the challenge with a little humour. The intricate task of capturing both the joyous essence of the occasion and the breathtaking serenity of the mountainous backdrop inspired me to explore two distinctive artistic approaches: one in colour and the other in black and white.

The colour piece vividly portrays the lush greens of the mountains, the burst of hues from festive decorations, and the vibrant spirits of the clients as they cycle along the trails. The interplay of sunlight filtering through the trees infuses life into the scene, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere.

The absence of colour allows for a focus on the textures of the landscape—the ruggedness of the mountains, the smoothness of the winding path, and the expressive forms of the cyclists. This interpretation emphasises the mood and movement, channeling a timeless quality that invites reflection on the experience itself rather than the distractions of colour.

Ultimately, both pieces provide unique perspectives on the hallmark occasion. The clients were delighted to find beauty in each interpretation, leading to the gratifying decision to acquire both artworks.
